Por imposição legal, António Vilela encerra, em 2021, um ciclo de 12 anos como Presidente da Câmara de Vila Verde. Na entrevista ao jornal “O Vilaverdense”, o autarca garante que vai cumprir o mandato até ao fim e recusa poder ser candidato à Assembleia Municipal, sublinhando que vai envolver-se activamente na campanha autárquica. Sobre a sucessão, Vilela admite que a Vereadora Júlia Fernandes daria uma boa Presidente da Câmara.
